About the work
I explore different surface and texture, primarily on canvas both layering and manipulating paint, gloss and pigments. Pouring, scraping and reapplying, the distinctive layers and marks in contrast with the use of water and paint reacting with various pigments fascinate me. For me, it's all there on the canvas , I as the artist take in the pleasure of considering, adjusting , removing and repairing the mix of elements.
My inspiration involves my intuitive mind, the ability to understand something without any reasoning process is what makes me create more. I layer and manipulate paint with a number of different tools, the environment that I am working in and my body movement synchronise in relation to the space around me .
The physicality is hugely important ... each brush stroke, movement of paint and colour interactions initiate the considered chaos in my paintings, whilst also transferring my movement as the artist. I enjoy the balance between freedom and control, this distinction is what gives my paintings a life , a curiosity, an explanation not even I, as the artist can voice.
